The decision was made for the new nursery school located at Williamstraße in Dresden Naußlitz, in order to ensure the legally guaranteed right for child care. The new building replaces a smaller existing facility in container design. The size of the site and its location in a quiet side street of the Kesselsdorfer Straße offer good conditions for the new design of the building. Due to the orientation of all group rooms to the south, the nursery school is designed as an elongated two-story building. The building is accessed through a ramp according to the location of the property at the street. In front of the building the Williamstraße is expanding into a public square. The open spaces of the nursery school are situated in the south and west of the building. They are directly accessible from the group rooms on the ground floor and connected to the upper rooms by an outside staircase. The nursery school is supplied by a courtyard that is situated in the north. The facility accommodates 188 children. 60 children are taken care of in the day nursery on the ground floor, 128 children are accomodated in the nursery school. On the ground floor a spacious multi-purpose room is situated that can also be used for events. A workshop and a children’s kitchen are situated in the upper floor. The spacious corridors are rhythmized by widenings and supplied with daylight. Upstairs a piazza serves as the public center of the nursery school.

By subtractive measures and buckling of the roof area the main features of the cubic structure are emphasized. On the one hand, the entrance of the nursery school is accentuated and on the other hand the external staircase is underlined. The effect of these cuts is enhanced by colored shades. The windows of both levels are arranged in an offset position to each other due to the different layouts of the floor plans. The resulting game is emphasized by solid sun protection elements made of perforated plates. The spacious glazings that are mainly oriented to the south are continued in the interior and serve as so-called „waving windows“ at several points of the corridors.
